I graduated from Michigan State University in 2014 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. I moved on to complete my year-long teaching internship in Waterford, MI at Donelson Hills Elementary School in April, 2015. I student taught in a first grade classroom. I learned a lot from my students and my mentor teacher, but I was ready to have my own classroom of students!
I was hired to teach first grade at Harvest Elementary School in Saline, MI in August, 2015. I just completed my third year of teaching, and have grown to love teaching first grade. I love seeing the incredible amount of learning and growth my students experience in just one year. As teachers in Saline, we have lots of opportunities to learn and grow. This year, I was given the opportunity to pilot new flexible seating options in my classroom. To learn more about my journey with flexible seating, click HERE. Meaningful technology integration is an area of focus at my school. We use technology in our classrooms to enhance current practices and communicate with parents. One of my favorite things to do is travel. I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to study abroad while in college. I lived and studied in Valencia, Spain for 4 months. I lived with a host family and took classes completely in Spanish. It was an incredible experience and being immersed in the language allowed me to learn so much! While I have to say my Spanish speaking skills have dwindled, I have great memories from studying abroad.
From a young age, I have had a passion for animals. We always had a dog growing up. When I started teaching and got my first apartment, I knew something was missing. I adopted Trevor from the Michigan Humane Society in March, 2015. He is a Chihuahua/Pug mix and absolutely hilarious! My students love hearing stories about the funny things he does at home.
