Theory of Learning/Teaching To create a theory of learning, I examined research articles that discuss how students learn. I used this data to write my own theory about student learning. This information provides me with a foundational knowledge I need when working with my first grade students. Through writing this theory, I have a better understanding of how my students learn.

Essay on Learning This essay highlights important elements of student learning. Using research from Bransford, Brown, and Cocking (2000), I was able to gain a better understanding of best teaching practices. In the essay, I discuss the importance of valuing student experiences to make learning more meaningful, the in-depth teaching of concepts, and helping students develop metacognitive skills.

Literacy Learner Project The goal of this project is to gain an in-depth knowledge of a student's strengths and weaknesses as a literacy learner and plan instruction accordingly. I worked with a first grade student in my class. I conducted assessments and analyzed them to plan two lessons. I then looked closely at post-assessment results to determine if my instruction was effective and consider possible next steps.
